John Le Carre Absolute Friends Published October 2006 by Hodder at £18.99 ISBN: 0340932732 Artwork by: Cover design: gray318

Raymond Seitz, The Times ‘This is le Carré with a twist, the Old Master developing new techniques for a new age'
Sunday Times 'Thoroughly gripping'
Daily Express 'Absolute Friends is vintage John le Carré: complex, often sardonically funny, always galvanically written.'
Observer ‘A literary master for a generation’
A.N. Wilson, Daily Telegraph ‘The master has not lost his touch . . . one of his most enthralling creations.’

Absolute Friends is a superbly paced novel spanning fifty-six years, a theatrical masterstroke of tragi-comic writing, and a savage fable of our times, almost of our hours. The friends of the title are Ted Mundy, British soldier's son born 1947 in a shining new independent Pakistan, and Sasha, refugee son of an East German Lutheran pastor and his wife who have sought sanctuary in the West. The two men meet first as students in riot-torn West Berlin of the late Sixties, again in the grimy looking-glass of Cold War espionage and, most terribly, in today's unipolar world of terror, counter-terror and the war of lies. Deriving its scale from A Perfect Spy and its passion from The Constant Gardener, le Carre's new novel presents us with magical writing, characters to delight, and a spellbinding story that enchants even as it challenges.

New York Daily News Nonstop action...there are enough cliff-hangers for a dozen Saturday serials. Michael Murphy is cool, brainy, sexy, and valiant!
Entertainment Weekly Vivid, fast-paced

Tim LaHaye, creator of the phenomenally successful Left Behind books, once again mixes biblical prophecy and high-octane adventure in the third of his newest top-ten New York Times bestselling series, Babylon Rising

The first two bestselling Babylon Rising novels established Michael Murphy as one of the most exciting heroes of recent times, a biblical archaeologist whose incredible discoveries do more than simply take him to dangerous, exotic places—they place him four-square in the path of the greatest evil facing mankind today. Now, in The Europa Conspiracy, the search for one of the Bible’s most fascinating and prophetically significant artifacts pits Murphy against an opponent he knows only too well—a man known only as Talon whose appetite for mayhem is matched only by that of his shadowy masters. And their dire plans for the world are about to take a terrible leap forward unless Murphy can stop them ... With The Europa Conspiracy, Tim LaHaye once again shows how his thrill-a-minute storytelling and deep understanding of the Bible have combined to make him one of today’s most popular fiction authors.

Tim LaHaye is currently the best-selling novelist in the United States. His Left Behind novels outsell Grisham, Steel and Clancy, consistently take the #1 spot on the New York best-seller list and remain in the top ten for weeks. He is the most popular and most internationally-recognised writer of Christian-based books of our day.

Brandon Vale is a career thief - the best there is. He's never been caught, never plans to be. Of course, there's the little problem of his serving out a prison term for a robbery gone bad - one that he didn't commit. Then, one night, he is broken out of prison against his will by Richard Scanlon, the former FBI agent who framed him in the first place. Scanlon, who still has ties to the U.S. intelligence community, has discovered that a Ukrainian crime organization is auctioning twelve nuclear warheads to the highest bidder, but he can't convince the government that the sale isn't a hoax. The only way he can get his hands on the money is to arrange for Brandon to steal the $250 million necessary to take the warheads off the market. Not that Brandon has much choice in the matter - it's either do it or go back to jail with the added years of a failed "escape" tacked on to his sentence - but he decides to get the cash by pulling off the heist he had been planning when he and Scanlon first met: hijacking the trucks that drive the casinos' cash out of Las Vegas once a week. As the day of the warhead sale approaches, though, their carefully constructed plan begins to break down, and Brandon starts to suspect that the deal has even higher stakes than he had imagined.
