David Fulmer Chasing the Devil’s Tail Published May 2006 by Poisoned Pen Press at £17.95 ISBN: 1890208841

A Mystery of Storyville, New Orleans.
1907 Storyville. Cultures, races, and religions more often blend than clash in a rich gumbo only New Orleans could serve up. But trouble brews. In this red light district, prostitutes ply their trade whether in cramped cribs or elegant houses of French ancestry, while music surges through its streets and helps harmonize the light and dark elements. King Bolden rules the Storyville brass with his golden coronet and his gift jasser to blow a riff on the city's music that pulses with new rhythms and notes. But the real King of Storyville is Tom Anderson, the distric's powerful property owner and political fixer, who employs Creole detective Valentin St. Cyr to dig into the deaths of a string of prostitutes. Each victim is found with a black rose. Is a serial killer leaving a calling card? Is King Bolden losing his mind as he stretches his genius to its limits? Why is an elderly priest sent away under care?

"This brilliant debut noir captures a time and place so perfectly the reader will resent each time he has to lay it aside..." - Barbara Peters

Nora Kelly Old Wounds Pbk published April 2006 by Poisoned Pen Press at £9.95 ISBN: 1890208256
Artwork by: Jacket photograph: Jeff Cottenden

'Kelly is as stunning on the evocative geography of workplaces as she is at dry, educated repartee. A chilling intrigue, which shrewdly examines professional jealousies and warped psychologies. John Coleman, Sunday Times
Returning to her childhood home on a year's sabbatical in order to care for her aged mother, historian Gillian Adams expects to see little in the way of excitement. The sleepy rural campus of Stanford University, though situated within easy reach of New York, has somehow escaped the violence which plagues the big city ... Until the body of a young female student is discovered on a lonely stretch of country road.
Even more shocking than the murder itself are the revelations which follow. Incriminating nude photographs and evidence of a string of affairs with married men prompt the police to conclude that the dead girl had been leading a bizarre double life.
As the murder hunt gains momentum the town finds itself in the grip of a maelstrom, with more than one of Gillian's childhood friends - and enemies - being sucked into the investigation. Can it be that one of them is the killer Like Nora Kelly's previous Gillian Adams novels, Bad Chemistry and In the Shadow of Kings, this intelligent mystery transcends the genre with its moving portrayal of complex characters embroiled in a chilling intrigue.
Nora Kelly was born in the United States in 1945. She has lived in London and Cambridge, and is now based in Vancouver, Canada. She has written three crime novels featuring Gillian Adams.

Nicholas Kilmer Dirty Linen Pbk published April 2006 by Poisoned Pen Press at £9.95 ISBN: 1890208531

Nicholas Kilmer writes the most gripping—and well researched—art mysteries of today. With all of the artworld’s chicanery and multimillions at stake, the action never flags. This time the cache is an improbable portfolio of erotica purchased clandestinely at a seaside auction, and protecting it leaves collector Clayton Reed mired deep in the seamy underbelly of a Fall River brothel! The pictures may illuminate the dark side of a major artist. Shades of Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec....
Reed and his scholarly man Friday, Fred Taylor, provide the best mystery tandem this side of Nero Wolfe and Archie, matching wits with a well-etched, mixed cast of villains from both country-club and peerage. This is Kilmer at full throttle, a work with characteristic panache.”
Larry A. Silver, Farquhar Professor of History of Art, University of Pennsylvania, who writes an Afterword for Dirty Linen.

Originally published in 1999 by Henry Holt, Dirty Linen is the fourth Fred Taylor art mystery following Poisoned Pen Press’ releases of Harmony in Flesh and Black, Man with a Squirrel, and O Sacred Head.

"This is Kilmer at full throttle, a work with characteristic panache.”

London, November 1811
The clatter of wheels broke the stillness. Two horses strained in harness, nostrils flaring, breath steaming in the night air. Wrapped in a greatcoat and low-crowned hat, the driver rode hunched over, face hidden by his scarf. A gloved hand cracked the whip. Faster. The woman lying in the road seemed unaware of her peril. She kept her eyes fixed on the church rising against the night sky. As the mists parted, the rose window emerged, a circle of textured shadow patiently awaiting the sun's fire.
The horses reared, and...
