Lin Anderson Torch Pbk published April 2007 by Hodder at £6.99 ISBN: 0340922370

The second in a new series from crime writer Lin Anderson. Forensic Scientist Rhona McLeod and the search for an arsonist in Edinburgh.

When a young homeless girl dies in an arson attack on an empty building on Edinburgh's famous Prince Street, forensic scientist Rhona MacLeod is called in to help find the arsonist. Severino MacRae, half Scottish/half Italian and all misogynist, has other ideas. As Chief Fire Investigator, this is his baby and he doesn't want help, especially from a woman.
Sparks fly when Rhona and Severino meet, but Severino's reluctance to involve Rhona may be more about her safety than his prejudice.
As Hogmanay approaches, Rhona and Severnio play cat and mouse with an arsonist who will stop at nothing to get his bigest thrill yet.

Lin Anderson was born in Greenock of Scottish and Irish parents. A graduate of both Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities, she has lived in many different parts of Scotland and also spent five years working in the African bush. A teacher of Mathematics and Computing, she began her writing career four years ago. Her first film, Small Love, which was broadcast on STV, was nominated for TAPS writer of the year award 2001. Her African short stories have been published in the 10th Anniversary Macallan collection and broadcast on BBC Radio Four. Torch is the second crime novel from Lin Anderson, following the successful Driftnet. A third novel, Deadly Code, is forthcoming.

Charlie Daniels Priceless Pbk published May 2007 by Hodder at £6.99 ISBN: 0340899778

Charlie Daniels has experienced every level of the business of prostitution, been to the depths, risen to the heights and survived both. She started her career as a streetwalker when she was a seventeen year-old single mother, living in a desolate tower block. She needed the money to buy nappies. Her dream was to live an exciting life, and since she had virtually no qualifications, the streets seemed to offer the best way to get it. But the streets are run by and for dangerous people. Eventually she realised that she wasn't going to be able to look after her beloved daughter properly and was forced to hand her over to her own foster mother, just as she herself was given away nearly twenty years before. Charlie went into business as a Madam. But the streets caught up with her; she got into a fight with a group of girls, stabbed one of them in the eye, and ended up doing time. In prison she saw the error of her ways but within months of coming out, circumstances had forced her back onto the game. Deciding that there was now no other way out of the poverty trap, Charlie went back into business with a vengeance, becoming one of the most successful Madams in the country, with a string of fifty girls working for her. By the time she was in her thirties Charlie had reached the pinnacle of her profession but she had also realised just how shallow and meaningless her life was, and how much she wanted to get her daughter back before it was too late. Joanne Lees No Turning Back Pbk published June 2007 by Hodder at £6.99 ISBN: 034092442X

See Review by Carol Anne Davis Author of Children Who Kill

'My intention is simple - to take the reader on the same journey I took, and have them experience the real truth of it. The book is for me, my family, the Falconios, for Pete - and for anyone who has been the victim of violent crime.'
Almost raped and murdered, Joanne Lees became the key witness in one of the most high-profile trials of recent times - the murder of Peter Falconio on a quiet stretch of deserted highway in Central Australia in mid-2001. Reported in sensational detail, the media's focus was often not on the man convicted of Peter's murder but on the woman who escaped him. Joanne has a unique and moving story to tell - of the events of that terrible night, through the gruelling process of the police investigation, and the traumatic time of the trial, where she had to re-live so much. And she tells of the continuing effects on her life, on her family's life, and the Falconio family's life. Joanne Lees wasn't killed that night - but from the moment she and Peter stopped to help a stranger on the highway her life was changed forever.
No longer content to be a silent victim, Joanne Leees reclaims her life from other storytellers. The book is her story - of what happened that night, and in the years that followed; and how she is facing the future. "No Turning Back" is a story of immense courage and survival.

Brandon Vale is a career thief - the best there is. He's never been caught, never plans to be. Of course, there's the little problem of his serving out a prison term for a robbery gone bad - one that he didn't commit. Then, one night, he is broken out of prison against his will by Richard Scanlon, the former FBI agent who framed him in the first place. Scanlon, who still has ties to the U.S. intelligence community, has discovered that a Ukrainian crime organization is auctioning twelve nuclear warheads to the highest bidder, but he can't convince the government that the sale isn't a hoax. The only way he can get his hands on the money is to arrange for Brandon to steal the $250 million necessary to take the warheads off the market. Not that Brandon has much choice in the matter - it's either do it or go back to jail with the added years of a failed "escape" tacked on to his sentence - but he decides to get the cash by pulling off the heist he had been planning when he and Scanlon first met: hijacking the trucks that drive the casinos' cash out of Las Vegas once a week. As the day of the warhead sale approaches, though, their carefully constructed plan begins to break down, and Brandon starts to suspect that the deal has even higher stakes than he had imagined.
