ISBN: 0-75285 675 8
Read by Susannah Harker It is Kate’s first day at the Barleybridge Veterinary Practice and one of her most perplexing tasks is to fill the old fire bucket with water ... Her anxieties are soon forgotten as she finds herself flung headlong into the hurly-burly of a busy clinic and loving it. Amongst the patients she meets are Myfanwy -a sheep on a lead, Cherub an elderly cat, and Adolf the Rottweiler who loves a fight with Perkins the Airedale . . . It is then that Kate learns what the bucket of water is for.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, particularly Scott, the Australian vet. But Kate already has a boyfriend, Adam. When she tells him that she wants to finish with him he begins stalking her. Concerned by Adam’s behaviour and at the same time deciding whether or not to try for a place at veterinary college, Kate finds herself more strongly drawn to Scott than she had intended. It is her dedication to the welfare of the animals and her new friendships in the Practice, combined with the support of her father and stepmother that help her to resolve her difficulties.
